Revelation Requires a Response
There are times when we keep asking God to show us what to do when He has already shown us.
We pray about it again. We ask for another confirmation. We wait for another sign. We listen to another sermon. We tell ourselves we are waiting on God, when the truth is, sometimes God is waiting on our response.
Because revelation requires a response.
God can show you the truth about something. He can reveal what needs to change. He can make His Word clear. But after He reveals it, there comes a point when you have to decide what you are going to do with what He showed you.
The Holy Spirit will not override what you decide.
FAITH TURNING POINT
One of the turning points in my own journey was realizing that knowing what God said and doing what God said were two different things.
I could hear the Word and agree with it.
I could write it down.
I could pray about it.
I could even tell somebody else what God was showing me.
But none of that replaced my responsibility to respond.
James 1:22 says, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” NKJV
That Scripture does not leave much room for us to hide.
There comes a point when hearing has to become doing.
WHAT I HAD TO UNLEARN
I had to unlearn the idea that because I understood something, I had changed it.
Understanding is important, but understanding alone does not produce change.
You can understand why you respond the way you do and still respond the same way.
You can understand why something hurt you and still allow that hurt to control you.
You can understand that you need to forgive and still refuse to make the decision to forgive.
You can understand what God is telling you to release and still hold on to it.
There were things God had already shown me that I kept bringing back to Him as if I needed more information.
I didn't need more information.
I needed to respond.
WHAT RESTORATION TAUGHT ME
Restoration taught me that I have a part in the process.
God will speak.
God will reveal.
God will convict.
God will give us His Word.
God will give us the strength to obey.
But He will not make the decision for us.
Your response is your responsibility.
That can be difficult to accept because sometimes we want God to do for us what He has given us the responsibility to do.
We want Him to make us forgive.
Make us let go.
Make us stop going back.
Make us change our response.
But forgiveness is not a feeling; it’s a decision.
Obedience is a decision.
And sometimes you have to make the decision while your feelings are still trying to convince you to do something else.
Feelings are real, but they are not truth.
REMINDERS
You don't always need another confirmation.
Sometimes you need to obey what God has already said.
You don't always need another Word.
Sometimes you need to work the Word you already received.
You don't always need God to show you something new.
Sometimes you need to respond to what He has already shown you.
The Holy Spirit will not override what you decide.
Your response is your responsibility.
MIRROR MOMENTS
What has God already shown you?
Not what are you waiting for Him to show you.
What have you been praying about that God has already answered through His Word?
What decision have you delayed because you are waiting to feel differently?
What have you called “waiting on God” that may actually be your hesitation to do what He has already told you to do?
Sometimes the hardest mirror moment is realizing that God is not the one holding up the process.
HEART CHECK
Ask yourself:
Am I hearing the Word but not doing the Word?
Has God already given me an answer that I don't want to accept?
Am I asking for another confirmation because I don't like the instruction I've already received?
Am I waiting for my feelings to change before I obey?
What would happen if I stopped asking God to tell me something else and started doing what He already told me?
Sit with that.
Because revelation requires a response.
LET THAT GO
Let go of the need for another sign when God has already spoken.
Let go of the idea that you have to feel ready before you obey.
Let go of waiting for everything around you to change before you change your response.
And let go of believing that hearing more will automatically produce something different.
At some point, you have to do the work.
James didn't tell us to keep hearing until something changed.
He said be doers of the Word.
There is a difference.
JOURNAL PROMPT
What has God already revealed to me that now requires a response?
What decision have I been delaying?
What am I waiting to feel before I obey?
What would responding to God look like for me right now?
Write honestly.
Don't write what sounds spiritual.
Write the truth.
Then ask yourself one more question:
What am I going to do with what God showed me?
SCRIPTURE TO MEDITATE ON
James 1:22 NKJV
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

This is also the heart behind Restoration Speaks Intimate Sessions®. A space where we can slow down, sit with what God is revealing, and do the work.
Because sometimes the next thing you need from God isn't another revelation.
It's your response to the revelation He's already given you.
